This directory contains the city boundaries for 1360 of the cities used in:
Akbar, Prottoy A., Victor Couture, Gilles Duranton, and Adam Storeygard (2023) The fast, the slow, and the congested: Urban transportation in rich and poor countries. National Bureau of Economic Research Working Paper 31642.

The file 'citylist.csv' contains each city, and its corresponding citycode. The boundaries are in shapefile format, and are contained in the 'shp' subdirectory. There is a single shapefile for each city, given by the files named 'city_[citycode]'.
-------
Note that, if opening citylist.csv in Microsoft Excel, some city names contain characters which may not display correctly unless the file is properly imported.
To ensure that city names are correctly displayed in Excel, import the data using 'From Text/CSV' on the Toolbar (in the Get & Transform Data group under the Data tab) and set File Origin to '65001: Unicode (UTF - 8)'.
Recent versions of Stata should correctly display all city names when import via the 'import delimited' command.
